Year 1 & 2
Miss Bracebridge | Year 1 & 2 Teacher

My name is Miss Bracebridge and I am a Year 1 and 2 teacher. I have been teaching at The John Bamford Primary School for 9 years across KS1 and KS2. I am a member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for leading Phase 2 and the Curriculum. I love all subjects but especially those that allow me to be creative. I also have a passion for languages and RE as I believe they are subjects which encourage children to develop an appreciation of different cultures and tolerance for all!
In Year 1, children continue their learning of Phonics in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check in June. In these lessons, children are set weekly spellings linked to the Phonics graphemes that they have been learning as well as the common exception words for Year 1. Your child will read with an adult at school but reading regularly at home will support your child’s reading development and progress.
From the moment children enter Year 1, we work alongside parents/guardians to build their child’s independence. This means that we ask that they come into the cloakroom by themselves and are responsible for their belongings and actions. If your child has shoes that have laces, please practice tying these laces with your child.
Teaching and learning in Year 2 is through a range of exciting and stimulating adventures. We encourage the children to become fully immersed within their learning and foster a sense of independence and responsibility.
We will be looking at a range of adventures which focus on local, national and global aspects.
